What is Celpip Test

The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program, or CELPIP, is an English language assessment test that measures the ability to listen, read, write and speak. The test is administered by the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver, BC, Canada's subsidiary Paragon Testing Enterprises.

Paragon is the only Canadian company that delivers CELPIP, English proficiency tests designated by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). It has two versions of the CELPIP test, CELPIP-General and CELPIP-General LS.

CELPIP-General assesses the English listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills of test-takers and is officially designated for permanent residency permit applications by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and is also accepted for professional designations.

Celpip test is expanding day by day. It becomes the most popular test for those who want to either get Canadian Permanent Residency or wish to obtain a professional license in Canada.

What is in Celpip General Test

CELPIP Test is delivered fully computerized, providing the opportunity for test-takers to complete all test components in one sitting with no additional appointments, interviews or test sessions required.

The test takers use a computer mouse and keyboard to complete the test components Reading and Writing, and a computer microphone and headset to complete the components Listening and speaking. Computerized tests help test takers have quick and reliable testing experience.

The test duration is about three hours to complete all four modules of the test.

Listening Module of the Test

In this module, you will be tested on your listening skills. The time given to this section is 47-55 minutes. To assess the test-takers listening skills, there are six parts to the listening test.

In all the questions, you will have four choices in which you need to select the best answer. You can guess if you do not know the answer.

Reading Module of the Test

In this module, you will be tested on your reading skills. The time given to this section is 55-60 minutes. To assess the test taker's reading capabilities, there are four parts of the reading test.

In all the questions, you will have four choices in which you need to select the best answer. You can guess if you do not know the answer.

Note: There may be a repetition of a part, which is known as an unscored item.

Unscored Item: Listening and Reading tests contain unscored items that are used to develop tests. These unscored items can be found in the Listening and Reading Tests anywhere and will have the same format as the items scored.

You won't differentiate scored items from unscored items, so put the best effort into the whole test.

Writing Module of the Test

In this module, you will be tested on your writing skills. The time given to this section is 53-60 minutes. To assess writing, there are two parts to the writing test.

In the first part, you need to write an email and respond to a survey in the second part. You will have the advantage of "spell checker" and word count in the writing test.

Speaking Module of the Test

In this module, you will be tested on your speaking skills. The time given to this section is 15-20 minutes. There are 8 Celpip Speaking Tasks. For each task, you read instructions on your screen and talk to a computer.

The speaking test of the celpip test is the most challenging factor. For this, practicing is the best solution. The best thing about Celpip speaking is that you have to answer real-life situations, but it becomes challenging to time limitations.
